Advanced Custom Fields is a Wordpress plugin that makes it easier to build websites using modules. These modules are available to clients via the Pages section.

Creating a Field Group

In the Custom Fields sidebar item, create or edit a Field Group. This will open a form with 3 blocks: Order, Location and Settings.

1. Order

This is where modules are created. These can be wysiwig text fields, images, buttons, repeaters and more. This is essentially data which can then be used together with modules within the code. Because these will be used throughout the site, and by clients, it's important that their naming makes sense, and is easily understandable.

2. Location

Here you can specify where this Field Group will be available. It can apply, for example, to all pages – by setting the Location's Post Type to Page. It can also be more specific, appearing only when the Page is Frontpage or Contact.

3. Settings

Leave these as they are, unless for specific use cases. If any toggles are used always check “Stylised UI”. If repeater has more than 2 subfields change Layout from “Table” to “Row”.
